Manage Your Stress, Or It Will Find a Way to Manage You: Try This 4-Step Exercise!

We at Plymouth Hypnosis Center would like to share certified hypnotist Bryan D. Toder's article, There Are Many Ways to Manage Stress, in honor of National Stress Awareness Month!

What are the sources of your stress? Read the full article to see if any of the stressful situations described affect you! Here's an excerpt:

"You’d better manage stress, or it’ll find a way to manage you. Stress can be very invasive in your life. It loves to be in the driver’s seat and you hand over the keys without fail on a regular basis because you feel defeated by it.

You could blame. Blame the boss, the spouse or the traffic. While you can’t control what other people do or say, you can manage some of the smaller irritations in your world in order to reduce your stress."

Here's a wonderful breathing exercise Bryan calls 4+16+8x10=RELAXED!

1. Breathe in deeply for four slow counts.

2. Hold your breath for 16 slow counts.

3. Exhale for 8 slow counts.

4. Repeat for a total of 10 times.

Note: Never do this while driving or operating machinery as you may experience a bit of lightheadedness.

Also, be sure that your counts are always on the same beat. That is, if you count slowly for 4 counts, don't speed up for the next 16 and then slow down again. Be sure all the counts are slow, even and to the same beat.
