Is Hypnosis Safe?

Last updated 5 years ago

Hypnosis has been used for hundreds of years to promote personal wellbeing. This natural method of helping people address issues and change habits is completely safe when performed by a certified clinical hypnotist. Here are two reasons why professionally-administered hypnosis is completely safe:

You Often Experience Hypnosis without Even Realizing It
Hypnosis is simply a process to induce a highly relaxed state of mind—one that occurs naturally every day. If you have ever found yourself engrossed in a task, be it driving, knitting, or watching a movie, you were likely experiencing a hypnotic state. Professional hypnotists help clients enter that state at a specific time in order to offer previously agreed-upon suggestions for self-improvement. Because a person in a hypnotic state has fewer mental “defenses” up, such suggestions are more readily accepted and the client feels empowered to change his or her life for the better.

You Remain Aware of Your Actions and Surroundings
One major fear of people who have never been hypnotized is that they will be taken advantage of or made to do things they are uncomfortable with while in a hypnotic state. However, hypnosis does not cause a subject to lose his or her mental faculties—it is a state of increased suggestibility, rather than an alternate consciousness or lack of awareness. For this reason, no one can be hypnotized against his or her will, and while under hypnosis, a person still has the ability to choose whether to follow a suggestion. Clients make the decision to be hypnotized in order to gain the confidence to meet personal goals, but their actions and behavior are still their own.

Although individual results may vary, using hypnosis is a safe way to work toward your personal goals.
